Ultimate Spring Checklist for a Bright and Fresh Home

Ultimate Spring Checklist for a Bright and Fresh Home

The birds are chirping, the air is fresh and bright, and the days are lasting longer now that daylight savings has finally come. Do you know what that means? Spring has arrived here in San Diego! Although our winters are typically mild, that doesn’t mean we can’t appreciate the coming of springtime! Now that the “cold” months are over, it’s time to spruce up your home for the lovely, refreshing, invigorating time of spring. Follow our ultimate spring checklist to make sure that your house is fully prepared to take advantage of this lively season.

Clean

Yes, we are talking about spring cleaning. Nothing refreshes a house more than a good, old-fashioned deep clean. Obviously, a deep cleaning is a pretty big undertaking, so here are some tricks to get the most out of your efforts:

  • Use a lint roller as a duster – These little babies pick up everything on lampshades and flat surfaces.
  • Spot clean your walls with soap and water, or a vinegar solution to remove any unsightly dirt or marks. This fix really makes a huge difference. Of course, if your walls have really taken a beating over the years, consider choosing a fun, bright new color for spring! We would be delighted to help you pick one out.

Organize

Organizing your home can be a cathartic task. Take a day or so to sort through some of your things and de-clutter.

  • Take down and put all of your old winter décor into a storage container. Stackable plastic ones work best to keep things that you only use for a brief period each year.
  • Organize your closet – You will feel much better after donating some of that old clothing that has been clogging up your dresser for years. We promise!
  • Organize your bookshelf – Order your books by genre, color or alphabetically so that you know where to look the next time you want to read something specific.
  • Rearrange your furniture – If your room permits it, take some time and change things up a bit. You will appreciate the new perspective, and it won’t cost you a dime!

Update

Spring is a bright, energizing time and your home should look and feel the same. Here are some ways that you can translate these feelings into your decorations:

  • Incorporate bright pops of color and lively patterns into your décor – whites, yellows and greens are especially refreshing this time of year

  • Add some glow to your outdoor space with some tastefully placed string lights. Spring in San Diego is the perfect time to set up your outdoor area for all of that grilling and entertaining you will be doing until it gets “cold” again.
  • Use peel and stick wall decals to add some fun design to a plain wall. Most of these stickers are removable so you can keep them up as long as you would like! AllModern.com has some great options.

Create

If you are feeling crafty, spring is the perfect time to undertake a quick little home décor project or two. Here are a few ideas to keep your spring home fun and unique:

  • Create floral centerpieces – You can use fresh flowers if you don’t mind replacing them often, otherwise, head to your local craft shop and pick out some realistic looking faux flowers to achieve this floral look.
  • Create a set of new pillows for your couch – check out this step by step throw pillow making how-to for directions.
  • Grab some inspiration from the farm and create a vase set out of mason jars. They also work great as candle holders or kitchen organizing containers!
  • Include some decoupage in your décor – learn how with this decoupage tutorial from Better Homes and Gardens.
